Good Sitting Posture

In our modern world, between school, work, and driving to and from those places… we’re pretty sedentary and it’s taking a toll on our bodies, especially our backs. So what’s the best sitting posture to keep your back healthy and happy?

Here are a few tips:

  • Sit back into your chair with your back straight and shoulders back

  • Distribute your weight evenly between both hips, and spread out across your buttocks and your thighs

  • Try to keep your pelvis from tilting forward or backwards by not sitting too far forward in your chair

  • Keep your knees lower than your hips and your feet flat on the floor

  • Avoid crossing your legs as this keeps your body from being properly aligned and can lead to low back pain

  • Try to get up and move around every 30 minutes or so. Staying still for too long can make your muscles feel tight and tense

  • Use a support cushion (pillow, rolled up towel, etc) for your lower back if needed

Try these out for good sitting posture and let me know how you feel!
